Wilson was a pioneer of the sport of ballooning, being one of the earliest pilots in Australian ballooning history, the first National Champion, the first female Australian pilot in World Competition and flew numerous 'firsts' during the 1970's and 80's. In 1999, she was the first Australian female pilot to represent her country in the prestigious Gordon Bennet Long Distance Gas Balloon Race in the USA.
